The Tāne te Waiora Men's Wellness and Empowerment Wānanga, taking place from 25th – 27th August 2023 in Marlborough, invites you to embark on a profound journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and brotherhood.

At Hawaiki Kura, we believe in the innate strength that lies within every man. The Tāne te Waiora Wānanga provides a unique opportunity to reconnect with your true essence, to rediscover the warrior spirit and wisdom that has been passed down through generations.

Discover Ancestral Gifts:

Throughout the wānanga, you'll have the opportunity to learn a range of ancestral gifts, including tūwaewae (Māori movement), Mau rākau (Māori martial arts), karakia (incantations), whakatau mauri (Māori meditation), Haka and whakawhanaungatanga (making healthy connections). These invaluable taonga tuku iho (teachings) will empower you to promote a healthy kaupapa Māori lifestyle.

Important Information

This wānanga is by Māori for everyone which means you do not have to be Māori to attend. This wānanga is open to all tāne 16 years and older.

There is no cost for the wānanga as it has been fully funded, however, a koha would be appreciated which can be brought on the day.

This wānanga will be held at Waikawa Marae, Picton, Mihi whakatau will be 6pm Friday and the wānanga will finish by 12pm Sunday.

Hawaiki Kura Charitable Trust has secured funding from the Ministry of Youth Development, Lotteries Community, Rata Foundation and JR McKenzie Trust. The Trust has decided to work with Hawaiki Kura to deliver this wānanga.

Te Kawa O Te Ako / Code of Conduct Guidelines

A high standard of behaviour is required from all attendees at wānanga, and tikanga and kawa (marae protocol) guide all that we do. This policy outlines how participants are expected to conduct themselves. All individuals are to read this policy and become familiar with and abide by these rules, kawa (protocol) and tikanga (accepted practices and customs) at all times.

Expectations:

Appropriate behaviour is required at all times, including respecting all people and property.
Take note of emergency procedures and follow instructions of the facilitators in the event of an emergency.
Report any accidents or incidents to the person in charge.

Zero tolerance:

Absolutely no alcohol or drugs are permitted to be consumed whilst on-site or prior to arriving on-site. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked and required to leave without delay.

Aggressive, abusive, intimidating or bullying behaviour of any sort will not be tolerated. Anyone who displays such behaviour will be asked and required to leave without delay. Non-observance may also result in participants being disallowed to attend other events.

Smoking or vaping is allowed but only during the breaks and in designated areas.
